Taking true lessons to heart | July 15th, 2009 | By: Drew Banyai

Nope, nothing new to post in the portfolio since June. I've been working with a student of C++ and helping him with his studies. I've always felt that at some point in my career, I would like to take time out to teach a course on game development and programming... and this has given me a newfound passion for that goal. We're currently working through basic visuals, pathfinding, OpenGL, animation... and he's picking it all up very quickly. I feel that having a student is a worthwhile reason to halt most of my personal work at the moment. To learn is a waste if you can't pass on your knowledge.

I've also settled in to a few other activities such as the online community following the company I work for, as well as a group activity that I do once a month. What I mean to say is that I'm starting to feel comfortable with living in Vegas, and I'm meeting new people. It's an interesting city, to say the least. I'm also already getting pumped for GDC 2010. I started working at Petroglyph right as GDC 2009 was happening, so it passed me by, but 2010 is going to be amazing. The main thing I remember learning from GDC was that I wasn't working hard enough... it was just the kick in the pants I needed, and probably the best advice I could have asked for.

The Site

This site is open to all viewers and I would gladly accept any and all inqueries regarding it or any content within. Although the intention of the site is to provide a portfolio for potential employers, I am always looking for business connections or interesting acquaintances, so feel free to drop me a line.

I'm always looking for interesting projects to work on, so if you have any ideas for additions to my portfolio or just have an idea you'd like to see come alive, feel free to send me a request. No matter how ridiculous it seems it might just peek my interests.

Note: Any pieces of software offered for download on this site are built and owned by me or in part by me within a larger group of programmers. Although the source to my work is not offered, if proof is required for any reasonable purpose, I will be more than happy to provide it.

Now that the formalities are out of the way, enjoy your stay!
